Album & Track Descriptions

Album Description
Cowtown Country Club's eponymous debut album is a cross-section of the styles and songs that show off their signature sound - sparkling jazz-inspired vocal harmonies, honky tonk and western swing tunes, and countrified re-imaginings of pop hits. The album attempts to capture the energy of their live performances, featuring the same vocal arrangements and instrumentation they bring to the stage.
Track Descriptions

  1. Cold, Cold Heart (3:44)
A swinging arrangement of the Hank Williams classic featuring the full quartet sharing lead vocals, group singing, two key changes, and a fake-out a cappella ending.
  2. Waterfalls (4:30)
Midtempo honky-tonk interpretation of the 90’s R&B hit by TLC. Stories of family values and hard life choices prove that traditional country music themes cut across genres and generations. And yes, we include the full rap. Pour one out for Left Eye.
  3. Long Tall Texan (3:46)
A high-energy, female-fronted Texas blues shuffle. Just-a-little-off-kilter lyrics, tight background harmonies and twangy telecaster work help fill in this full-sized portrait of tongue-in-cheek swagger straight from the state where everything is bigger.
  4. Choo Choo Ch’Boogie (3:05)
Jump blues with four-part vocal harmonies and jazz-inflected guitar work, this train song recalls a place and time just before the birth of Rock and Roll. Lyrical themes of post-War disillusionment are strangely applicable to the modern workforce.
  5. Kansas City (You’re Still on my Mind) (4:20)
Country ballad led by a lonesome baritone vocal. Expansive background harmonies and earnest lyrics drive this tale of inescapable heartbreak that doubles as a love letter to the namesake city. An original by Leah Sproul.
  6. I Wanna Dance With Somebody (4:22)
A surprising, midtempo transformation of the Whitney Houston hit. Shades of the great American songbook might just make you want to dance a little closer than the original recording. Featuring the full ensemble, bookended with close a cappella harmonies.
  7. Crazy Arms (4:00)
The honky-tonk standard that defined the country shuffle, presented here with a male vocal lead and four-part harmonies on the chorus. Both the telecaster and bass take solos which build to an exciting a capella return to the final chorus.
  8. Foolin’ Around (3:12)
Fast-paced female-led vocals with clean background harmonies and full-quartet choruses make for an exciting arrangement of this classic Buck Owens number. Also featuring instrumental solos on guitar, bass, and drums, with gypsy chop rhythm guitar throughout.
  9. Peaches (4:28)
The classic 90’s alt-rock anthem by The Presidents of the United States of America turned upside-down. Reimagined as a lazy country waltz, jam-packed with complex jazz harmonies and a surprisingly gritty finish.
